• Our Approach

Families often seek support during times of uncertainty, stress, or transition. Emily’s goal is to create a safe, supportive space where children feel understood and parents feel informed, respected, and empowered.

She works with families navigating concerns such as anxiety, mood changes, behavioral challenges, school difficulties, developmental differences, and the effects of trauma. Emily’s approach is calm, collaborative, and tailored to each child’s unique strengths, needs, and environment.

  • Education

Emily’s training reflects a deep understanding of how children develop and function across settings.

Emily earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Florida, where she participated in research focused on early intervention for children with autism spectrum disorder.

She completed her master’s degree in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis at Vanderbilt University, gaining hands-on experience in school settings as a student teacher and behavioral service provider. Emily earned her Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her training emphasized trauma-informed care and collaboration between families, schools, and clinicians.

  • Experience

Emily’s background allows her to support children within the full context of their lives, not just isolated symptoms. She has extensive experience working alongside parents, teachers, and school teams to address concerns that span home and school environments.

She is well-versed in educational systems and frequently supports families navigating IEPs, 504 plans, and school-based interventions. Her experience with foster care systems and trauma-informed practices allows her to thoughtfully support children who have experienced instability or significant life transitions.

This systems-level understanding helps ensure that care is coordinated, realistic, and aligned with each child’s daily experiences.

  • Building Confidence

At the heart of Emily’s work is a belief that every child has inherent strengths and the capacity for growth. She is passionate about helping children better understand themselves, develop confidence, and build skills that support emotional well-being, learning, and relationships.

Whether a child is learning to manage big emotions, navigate social situations, or better understand how their brain works, Emily focuses on progress that feels meaningful, achievable, and affirming.

More about Dr. Emily Gibson

Hello! I am Emily Gibson and I am from Pensacola, FL . I moved to Huntsville, AL in 2023 to be with my husband, Tyler, and our dog, George. I enjoy reading, baking, and game nights with friends in my spare time. You’ll often find her at the library or enjoying a treat at a local coffee shop!

I first began my studies at the University of Florida where I earned a B.S. in Psychology and engaged in research focused on early intervention services for children with autism spectrum disorder.

Subsequently, I studied at Vanderbilt University where I earned a M.Ed. in Special Education and Applied Behavior Analysis. During this time, I enjoyed learning more about how children engage with their school environments as a student teacher and through providing school based behavioral services. This training provided an in-depth understanding of the IEP and 504 plan process in schools as a member of student support teams.

Finally, I earned a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My clinical work during this time focused on trauma informed care for children in foster care. My research focused on the impact of school on the mental health of students, trauma informed care, suicide prevention, and effective consultation. You can find some of my published papers at the link below.

With a background in psychology, applied behavior analysis, and special education, as well as knowledge of foster care systems, I am uniquely qualified to help you address a wide range of concerns including mental health symptoms, behavioral challenges, and learning differences.
